Urethane

Urethane systems continue to evolve with the needs of industry.  They are very durable, easily colored, and typically yield a very high gloss.

Like epoxy coatings, urethanes are available in a variety of options.  Today, one component and two component versions are popular, ranging from 40% to 100% solids.  One component products are called "moisture cured urethanes" (MCU) and are typically solvent borne.  Water based urethanes are recognized for outstanding adhesion properties, while offering less durability than their solvent borne counterparts.  Chemical Resistant Urethanes (CRU) provide outstanding chemical resistance to most aggressive products; like brake fluid, skydrol, and ketone based solvents.  CRU's are normally cycloaliphatic in nature, reducing their tendency to yellow from ultraviolet light.

Urethane systems are typically installed with an epoxy based primer.  An installation consisting of epoxy primer and two coats of moisture cure urethane, remains one of the industry's best values.  Urethanes are normally applied at 300-400 sq. ft. per gallon, yielding 3-4 mils (dft) per coat (dependent upon solids content).
